Nana's Support Letter

Nana’s Support Letter- Final Draft.jpg

Dear Friends,

This February I will be traveling to Haiti as part of a team conducting a survey for Global Vision Citadelle Ministries (GVCM), which operates 17 schools across Haiti. The purpose of this survey is to assess the occupational challenges faced by the teachers, and explore potential opportunities to partner with them in the future.

I was first approached about this opportunity this past December, when Bethany Stoller, the Children's Ministries Director for Resonate Christian Church, called to ask if I would consider going with her. I was apprehensive, but agreed to pray about it; I thought something would come up that would prevent me from going, but I am continually amazed at how God works in my life, and provides opportunities that I would not have imagined possible. Ultimately, I realized the only thing preventing me from going was me. As I was thinking about this trip, I saw that my skills, training, and experience in the mental health community could be extended to the teachers in Haiti. Much of my job centers on building relationships, evaluating needs, and reducing deficits through education.

Our trip dates are February 14-21, 2018, and we will be staying at the orphanage in Mirebalais. The proposed plan is to spend the first 3-4 days interviewing and observing teachers as well as exploring potential new partnership opportunities. The last 2-3 days, we will be leading a short teacher training with a focus on their purpose and hopes as educators at the school in Mirebalais (which is near the orphanage where we were last Spring).

As a team, we invite you to join us in any of the following ways to collectively make this teacher training trip not only possible but also effective and mutually valuable.

  1. Giving monetarily:  The total cost of the trip is $3,100.  Bethany and I are raising support together and this total reflects the cost for both of us combined.  We ask you will prayerfully consider making a financial gift.  You can give online, and select "Haiti" from the dropdown menu:

  2. Praying for us: Our greatest need in prayer is to humbly and authentically come alongside our brothers and sisters and truly listen to their needs.  Please be praying for this attitude of Christ (Philippians 2: 3-5) as we prepare and go to Haiti.

  3. Offering your skills and expertise: We invite you to help us develop tools to use for interviews and observations. Many of you have expertise, training, and passions that we need to best serve our brothers and sisters in Haiti.  If you have experience, training, and education in creating surveys, cross-cultural interview questions, observation design, or are interested helping us prepare for the trip, we would love to meet with you and learn from you!

Thank you for your time, your prayers, your love and support as we work alongside our brothers and sisters in Haiti.

Peace be with you,

Nana Ama Akom
